29 Days of Self-Care DAY EIGHT: SOAK
Soak.


Okay, so slight shift in the topic discussion for our 29 Days of Self-Care series, but its one we live by. Every day after work we come home and draw a bath. Bubbles, essential oils, Epson and Himalayan salts with candles and music- we NEVER skip this critical component of our nightly routine. Why? Because it is SO important for us, both physically and mentally.

After the physical and mental wear and tear of our workday, we used to find it incredibly challenging to decompress when home. Insomnia bouts were often, and as mentioned in our bio, we have a touch of chronic pain/injury issues that make it hard to manage when we hit a flare up. On top of the fact that running a business and making sure we get our workouts in (another tool to manage that pesky chronic pain), our body and mind can get pretty tuckered out by the days end.

We tried a lot of different ways to try to alleviate these sleep and pain problems, but nothing worked. Sleep aids, muscle relaxants, muscle rubs but nothing helped enough to be integrated into our daily routine. Then our doctor suggested taking a hot salt bath each night for at least 20 mins to allow our muscles and joints to relax and to stimulate repair. Sprinkle some lavender oil in too to help your mind and both decompress. So we gave it a try. BEST SOLUTION EVER. Sleep came easier, pain dissipated, and our general mindset was much more relaxed. We were able to let go of both the physical and mental stress that had been building up into our body.

Ever since we found how much it helped we integrated it into our programming for our clients. After a tough work out, we encourage our clients to have a soak to help their muscles recover for the next day. Muscles didn't ache as much and their recovery time became much faster. They were able to decompress. They were able to relax. They just generally felt better. Now many of them soak nightly as they found it impacted their lives in such a positive way.

Test this tip. After work, draw yourself a hot bath. Throw some salt and essential oils in there (we encourage you sticking to relaxing blends like lavender and eucalyptus), light some candles, put on some relaxing tunes and soak (ideal time is min 20 mins so your body can absorb the magnesium in the salt). Then hit the sheets. We bet you'll sleep like a baby.
