Life can be challenging. It can throw curveballs at you when you least expect it. Curveballs that hit your heart with such force that a piece of it is lost. People come into your life and leave a mark. Lessons are taught, and love is shared, but then, in a single second, everything can change.

Shock. Heartbreak. Sorrow.

Reality check.

We get so caught up in petty issues that are so minor in the big picture of life that we lose sight of how much we have to be thankful for. How much we have to appreciate. Life can ALWAYS be worse and in extreme ways. You complain about a back pain when someone else is bound to a wheelchair for the rest of their life. You complain about not getting the exact shoe you wanted when someone is entirely without the privilege of evening owning a pair. You complain about not getting that A+ when someone doesn't have access to education. You complain about not having sparkling water when so many are without drinkable water in the first place.

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH US?!

We have become so selfish within our own needs that we cant recognize all the blessings, big and small, that we have. Breathing on your own. Standing on your two feet. Having access to food and water. Having a family. Having the ability to LIVE.

The greatest gift we have in life is appreciation. Appreciation for every single thing we have, when there are millions of people out there who don't have even the most basic qualities of life we take for granted. Don't disrespect all that you are blessed to have. Don't disrespect all the blood, sweat, and tears your loved ones have sacrificed to provide you with the life you have. Don't dishonor yourself by not taking note of every single gift you have, because life itself is such a gift.

Test yourself. Think about all that you have and then think about all those people who don't have a fraction of what you have. Think about all those you love and care about and then think about those who have been taken from us. Think about how privileged you are to be alive. Be thankful. It will give you so much to appreciate in your life, and an appreciative life is a full one.
