Sometimes we can mess up. From tripping into a hallway, walking into a door and/or failing terribly at an activity, we have all been there and will all be there again. The most important part of this experience is to be able to laugh it off. Everyone makes mistakes, and when you happen to make one, the last thing you should do is give yourself a hard time or be embarrassed. With every mess up comes a lesson, a heads up, a cue to pay more attention to what you are going. We always assume that when we do something wrong or embarrassing, that everyone is judging us. Laughing at us. And sometimes that may be true, but why can't you laugh at yourself?
Whenever we do something embarrassing or ridiculous, we can't help but laugh. Not only because it's a way to work through the embarrassment, but mostly because HOW FUNNY DID THAT LOOK?! Supermanning on to a sidewalk because you didn't watch where you put your foot: HILARIOUS. Walking into a door because you were too busy making eyes at the cutie across the street: ROMANTIC COMEDY. When we laugh at ourselves, we release ourselves from the embarrassment. We, in a way, take our power back by not allowing it to make us insecure. We show we are human and light-hearted to those around us. We become real. And relatable.
Give yourself a break. Next time you mess up (because you will) be playful. Make fun of yourself. Enjoy the humor in the moment. Don't take things too seriously and enjoy life and all the moments it makes for us.
